Changing Teacher Beliefs on ELLs through an Online Course

Without building equitable perspectives, effective strategy implementation cannot happen. Without believing in the mathematical capability of Emergent Bilinguals (ELLs), math teachers cannot teach them effectively. This presentation will introduce how an innovative online course can change teacher perspectives about how to teach mathematics for Emergent Bilinguals using the analysis results of a research study based on an ISU online course, Teaching Mathematics for ELLs in K-12 Classroom. Although we will focus on the research results, this presentation will involve various discussions and recommendations for classroom implementation that the audience can actively participate in and share their experiences.
