ICTM Conference 2019

Participants will be engaged in activities that lead then through the use of concrete materials, integer tiles, then to drawing pictures from their experience with the integer tiles and then move to the use of symbols to represent the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of integers. During the session participants will work in teams of four to solve and discuss tasks that promote conceptual understanding of computation with integers. The teams then will be asked to work through tasks that can be used in their classrooms. The key focus of this presentation is to present and alternative to using the number line and colored chips to develop conceptual understanding of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers.
