Building Rational Number Sense through "The Grapes of Math" and More!
During this session, participants will be engaged in open-ended problem-solving tasks which develop rational number sense. Participants will learn how to translate story-book pictures as well as pictures of the world around them into meaningful mathematical tasks that involve fractions, operations with fractions, ratios and proportions, which are appropriate for students in grades 4th - 7th. Participants will leave with a variety of activities that can be implemented immediately.

Using Technology to Develop Discourse in the Middle School Math Classroom
Imagine a classroom full of students and devices. What does it sound like? Too often, the introduction of technology into a middle school math classroom brings with it silence. How can we leverage technology to create more social and creative classrooms? How can we use technology to include rather than isolate? Bring a device, bring your experience, and bring your voice as we explore these ideas together.

Just Getting Answers Is Not Enough: Interventions to Create Mathematical Thinkers
To see quick results in interventions used in RTI and MTSS models, it's too easy to resort to teaching isolated strategies to solve problems. Gains may be seen on fact tests, but long-term goals of understanding can be sabotaged. This session will describe interventions that empower struggling learners to engage in reasoning and sense making.
