Making Math Discourse Work

Are you frustrated with the lack of quality conversations when you give students a chance to engage with a math task? Are you looking for some tangible ways you can get kids more engaged in mathematical discourse? Then this session is for you. I'll give you a chance to play the role of student and share my successes and failures in supporting mathematical discourse with students. I'll share some specific strategies and tools as well as some key resources that have helped me along my journey to facilitating better conversations in math class.

Making Secondary Math Accessible for All

We are a 8-9 math team that works to make secondary math content, as well as number sense and proportional thinking, accessible to all learners through hands-on materials and movement. We have used these strategies in Algebra 1 courses in the past to overcome significant math deficits and allow students to learn at the same pace as their peers.
